My best friend and I have our children in school, And one morning she calls me while yet air is cool. What shall we do she says while I’m still yawning. We can’t waste this beautiful day that is dawning. We could go to the library or movie house. There’s not much exercise while sitting on a couch. It’s too dark in the movies; we’ll miss all the light Of this beautiful and sunny day to delight. Then we both stare thinking with all of our might And both at once yell out together, “Let’s bike.” We find so much joy as we pedal along A cool tree-lined street with birds and their song. Feeling free as the birds as we whiz in the breeze Although some of the pollen may make us sneeze. Miles pile up and soon we begin to tire. Our clothes are getting wet as we start to perspire. So we head down our street that leads us to home. Ending a time with kids in school and we’re alone. © Copyright 1997 by Jean E. Gorney
