I walk down the empty street, wishing so badly he hadn’t left me, my best friend was gone. A fire, is what the police say killed him, but I know better. The gang had been after me for months, and they used him to get to me. What they didn’t count on was that no matter what, I will get my revenge, and they will pay for his death. I knew it was dangerous for him to know about them, as only I can truly see them. Their shadows, their faces, invisible to normal humans, but that’s the thing about me, I was cursed with this “gift” of seeing. I can see everything, invisible ink, shadows that aren’t even there. I was given this ability to take them down, but since I had not been trained, it’s very hard to find them. When I was little I used to get these senses that there was danger nearby, everyone would call me insane, and say everything was fine, but he always believed me. Life without him is like life without color, there’s no light in your life, no emotions, he was my rock, my anchor, without him I feel like I’m a boat lost at sea during a storm. “I love you.” Were his last words before he pushed me out of the building, seconds before it blew up in flames, and a scaring scream was heard for miles. It’s been a week, yet it feels like he’s still screaming for me to run. As I look at this building, the ally of the gang out for blood, it brings fury to my heart. My best friend was still in there somewhere, I knew that he was too young, and it wasn’t his time. I entered the creepy abandoned building carefully, making sure no one was following. I walked down the charred hallways, to the scene of the explosion, I gasped in surprise at what I saw. So many bodies, all burned and lifeless, bodies of children, woman, and men. I kept going, I entered another hallway, this time with doors. It felt like there was one right door, the rest were traps. I sensed a familiar warm feeling coming from the one two doors down on the left. “MADDY!” As soon as I entered a pale figure screamed my name and hugged me as tight as a straight jacket, and then I realized. “Jayden?” He pulled back and looked at me, with sadness in his ghostly eyes, I tried to detect regret, but he had none. As he knew that I would’ve done the same. “This... makes no sense. You’re a ghost know, you should be in the ghost realm.” He started rubbing his arm like he did when he was nervous, “well... I know this is going to sound crazy. But I have this feeling, that I’m not a ghost, or not exactly.” Suddenly a strong breeze blew by, sweeping my hair in the winds, and a figure appeared. It was a guy with black hair, bronzed skin, and ocean blue eyes. He had a murderous gleam in his eyes. When he spoke his voice was rough, and displayed no emotion. “It is true, it wasn’t your time, your life has been set in stone, and you have one week until your stone is broken. For you to become human again, you must destroy the one that has wronged you.” He said this with a dull look on his face. “What does that mean, what one who has wronged him?” I was never good at riddles, I always relied on Jayden for those. “He means the one who set the bomb, the one who killed me.” He had this look of certainty on his face that made me believe him. “But you can’t see them, no one can see them.” “You can, you can see them, and sense them.” “But I’m not trained, I can’t control it, what if I choose the wrong one?” “If you choose the wrong one, he will stay a ghost forever. No second chances are given, so choose wisely.” As he finished he dispersed into thin air and blew away with the wind...
