Instead of freckles you wore scars of life experience
You grew a beard to hide the traces of adolescence carved into your cheeks but it shown through your eyes like a light house during a sea squall.
Calling tired and worried sailors onto your shores with promises of warmth and full bellies.
My stomach ached with the pain of being empty, my eyes crusted over with sleep I'd lost and then I floated onto the rocks of your beach and was comfortable enough to find dreams, and substance that quieted the deepest growl of hunger.
Sea men aren't meant to be landlocked but your love made the ocean seem like a death wish.
Who would want to face the howling winds when I could hide away in your tower and never bare the battles brought on by the waves.
The reckless soul that once inhabited my body became silent, my wanderlust crawled away and was replaced by security
But darling I was never meant to be stable.
And you were never meant to house long term guest.
When my bare feet touched the wet sand for the first time in months it was bitter sweet. I changed the direction of my sails more times then I could count
Rethinking my decision to leave with every rise and fall of the moon.
I sought the same feeling on the shores of others,
Tried to find refuge from the storms in light houses shinning dimmer then the one I'd called home for so long.
But you see, sea men aren't meant to be landlocked and no one is prepared to house long term guest.
