I woke up in a pile of sweat, gasping for air, I pressed the button on the cord around my neck. Almost immediately my dad burst through the door, turning the lights on as her rushed over to my bed. I shielded my eyes from the light, as they were adjusting my dad wrapped his arms around me, rubbing my back slowly, to help me calm down.

“What happened this time?” You may be confused by what’s happening, well, allow me to explain. My name is Harper Hathaway, my mom left when I was only 7 years old, around the time that I was diagnosed with a rare condition called dream explosion. While it may sound dangerous, it’s quite the opposite actually. It basically means that I have these extremely realistic dreams, and the next day they explode into reality, and it comes true. You might be thinking of visions, but this is completely different. I only have bad dreams, each and every night I wake up in a pile of sweat, gasping for air just like tonight. My father got this necklace that’s used by most elders in case they fall down or if they’re in danger. It has a button that I can press and my father gets an alert on his phone. He’s a really light sleeper, so this comes in handy.

“I-It was mom.” His face fell, almost immediately his poker face was showing. “S-She got hit by a c-car, on her way b-back here.” He shook his head, muttering a few curses under his breath.

“Are you sure she was on her way here?” I nodded my head, I looked into his eyes and saw something, so I touched my hand to his face and immediately regretted it. His mind was bussing with guilt, he blamed himself for this. His thoughts came fast, ‘It’s my fault I should’ve...’ ‘How am I supposed to...’ I yanked my hand back, I couldn’t stand to be in that state of depression.

“How’s it your fault, why do you feel so guilty.” Along with having dream explosions, I have this incredible ability to feel someones emotions and read their thoughts by touching their face.

“I told her that running away from her problems wouldn’t fix them, and that if she ever loved you, she would come back...”
