It was cold on this particular Saturday morning. It seemed fitting though. After all... today was her last day before she is sacrificed. She felt honored to be the chosen one. All the girls her age in the tiny village worked hard on the ceremonial test to be the winner. But in the end she won. She smiles and sets to work on making her ceremonial gown for tomorrow. A white simple gown with a raven feathered necklace that she added a blue bead in the middle to represent the water God. Planting season was soon upon us. We worship and prey to the water God to bless us with a vast amount of water to provide for the crops and our people. But to please our God even more, we sacrifice a pure soul to please the water God. A young female is always chosen. No male is allowed to be sacrificed. They are here to protect and provide for the village. Us woman have our duty and the males have theirs. It was late in the afternoon. My father, the chief of our small village was proud of me. That night during dinner he gave me his favorite sea rock ring. "My daughter, tomorrow you will give yourself to our water God." He smiled as he said this. I was smiling too, glad that my father was proud of me. "Yes father, I am honored to give myself to our God and for the greater good of our people." His smile gets even wider and reaches out to hug me. That night as I layed in bed, I reached over to my jewelry box and slid on the sea ring my father gave me. Smiling, I closed my eyes and dreamed of the ocean. It was early morning and the whole village gathered around the seashore. I walked over to my father. He looked at me and beamed. "You look so beautiful my daughter!" I was wearing my white gown. My raven feathered necklace standed out with the feathers glistening in the early morning sunlight. My hair was braided and woven with wild blue flowers my older sister picked for me the other day. My pink flushed cheeks had painted blue symbols of our water God. My father reached in his satchel and pulled out a set of rope. He turned to the people. "Today we are here for the ceremonial sacrifice to our water God!" "My daughter Danar is the chosen one!" "We shall witness her humble sacrifice to our God!" He turns to me and gives me a warm smile. "Danar, come." I obey his command and walk over to him. He grabs my hands and tries them behind my back. My heart starts to beat fast. My father notices my nervousness and pats my shoulder for reinsurance. I smile at him. I turn my head to look at my mother and sister one last time. I smile at them. My mother starts to cry. She was sad to find out that I was the chosen one. She didn't understand how important and crucial this was for our people. She was against me from doing the ceremonial test from the beginning. I looked at my father. "Goodbye father." He smiled and gives me a kiss on my cheek. "Goodbye my little bird." I step away from my father and start walking torwards the ocean. My feet hit the cold icy water. I start to tremble...but I keep walking. Deeper and deeper it gets. I walk to the point where the water is at my waste. I turn and look at my father. He nods his head to tell me to keep going. So I do. I walk and walk until I couldn't stand anymore. I floated for a second before I started to sink. I start to panick. As I'm under water I try to tug off the rope tied to my hands but I couldn't tug it off. I open my mouth to scream but it only makes it worse. Water gets into my lungs and I start to choke. My vision starts to fade. As my eyes close I see something. A hand reaches out to touch my cheek. I close my eyes to the warmth I feel. This feeling gives me piece. My God has visited me. I let go of my life and give myself to him completely. Thanks for reading!
