Nigel sharply turned left, heading down an alley. The Overseers, still in pursuit, steadily started to catch up to him. He looked back at the overseers and looked in front of him, there was man who looked familiar with two City Watch officers at his side, it was Matthew. “Go, quickly, get out of here!” said Matthew. “Four against three, huh? How about we make this an even fight.” Matthew said as he pointed his pistol at one of the Overseers. Nigel stopped and sat down. He was all alone in the alley. Tired from the encounter with the overseers, Nigel leaned backed and closed his eyes. “Something's not right.” Thought Nigel as he woke up. He was on a floating island in a space that seemed infinite. There were more Islands floating around. There was an unusual mist, that was very light but dark, surrounding the area. “Hello Nigel.” Said a monotone voice. A young man appeared out of the mist. He was average looking, but one thing was off about him. His eyes were black. “Who are you?” “Depends who ask.” Said the young man. “Some worship me as a god while others fear me as a devil, and dedicate there life to trying to destroy me.” “Are you…” “That's right Nigel, the Observer.” “Where am I? What do you want from me?” Asked Nigel. “I've brought you to the void. Think of it as the afterlife. The souls of the cruel and wicked are sent here, and wonder until they are devoured by the void.” “What about the souls of the good?” Asked Nigel. “The souls of the pure, the innocent, are rewarded with non-existence. It's ironic, isn't it? That the good simply cease to exist while the evil get to live after death.” “Sound like a cruel fate either way. Anyway, I know you’re the Observer but who, specifically, are you?” “Who I was is not important, but what I now am is. I'm neither a god or a devil, I'm simply the current divine inhabitant of the void.” “Current?” “Yes, sometimes the void has a divine entity, sometimes it doesn't. Some last for thousands of centuries while some only last for mere seconds. We rule over the void until we fade away and are reclaimed by it. In fact, it's still possible that people somewhere are still worshipping a prior void divinity.” “I see, but why have you brought me here?” “Because you have my interest Nigel.” Said the Observer. “I know about your father. His death was part of plot, a plot that involves people that you are well acquainted with. I'm curious about what you will do if given power over those people. I'm offering you my mark. This mark will give you supernatural powers, powers that you can use to get revenge on those responsible for his death.” “Why should I accept your offer?” Asked Nigel. “Don't you want to know who was involved in the plot to kill your father, and why they wanted him dead? Plus, I ask for nothing in return, only that you entertain me.” Nigel stared at the ground and looked at the Observer. “Alright, I accept.” “Then I grant you my mark.” The Observer clinched his right hand. Nigel felt a burning sensation in his left hand. He grabbed his hand and looked at it. There was a strange symbol burned into his hand, the same symbol that was on the rune the Overseers found in his home. “You now bare my mark.” Said the Observer. “The powers I've given you are yours to use as you see fit. But back to more important matters, I bet you want to know who all was involved in your father's death.” “Yes.” “As you've probably guessed by now, High Overseer Anderson was the one who came up with the plot. He also had help from Kane Monroe, Lily Webb, Ambrose Newman, and even the emperor himself, Gerral Hart.” “I suspected both Anderson and Kane, but how are Ambrose and the emperor involved in this? Why would they want my father dead? And who is Lily Webb?” Asked Nigel. “Those questions shall be answered on your quest for revenge. Look for a man named Harrison Lynch, he'll help you travel through the canals that connect the different city's of the Empire. You'll find him at a tavern called The Raven’s Rose. When you meet him, show him this.” The Observer handed Nigel an old, rusty coin. “This is all the help I'll give you, the rest is up to you. I'm curious about what choices you'll make and the actions you'll take. I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out.”
