The Black Rose Woods In the year 2066, 2:55 in the afternoon, there were two teenage twin brothers who were sitting in class listening to the teacher going over some homework they were going to have at the end of the class. The teacher was walking around the classroom handing out a packet of papers. And walking back to the front of the classroom after handing out the packets that had more instructions for the homework assignment. “Alright class, for the homework assignment I want you all to go on an adventure over the weekend and then make a slide show on what you have researched on and discovered on your adventure, and before anyone asks, yes, you can have partners,” Mr. Johnson said. He was standing in front of the class and was wearing a black suit and red tie. The two brothers smirked and shared a look, already having the place they were going to explore for their adventure, and they knew it was going to be a big risk. Their idea was to go and explore the Black Rose Woods and bring back two roses to prove they each had been there. The older brother, by a few seconds, nodded at his younger brother understanding his thought. It was like their minds were linked together and they could talk just by looking at each other. The older brother had medium black hair with navy blue streaks that was parted to the side, covering one of his eyes, a pale complexion, and his eyes were a magenta color. He wore a band t-shirt and a pair of navy blue jeans that had a chain on the side, and had on a pair of red converse. His name, Mark Jones. The slightly younger brother had medium hair, slicked back with the ends dyed a silver color that he had specially made to look like silver fire. He had a slightly paler complexion than his twin brother since he didn’t go out much. He wore a dark Grey hoodie, black jeans, and black ankle high combat boots. His name, Mikaleigh Jones. The bell had rung ending that class. Mark and Mikaleigh gathered their books and headed to their lockers, which were side by side, they grabbed their bags and hurried home to get started on the assignment. Mark and Mikaleigh had gotten in Mark’s black ‘67 Chevrolet Impala and drove out the parking lot of Rosswood High School. Mark had pulled up into the driveway of a four story house, turning the car off, and they went inside. He went straight up to his and Mikaleigh’s shared room and started packing while Mikaleigh had gone to the kitchen to pack some food and drinks for the adventure to Black Rose Woods. Mark walked down the stairs with both bags of clothing items, bathroom necessities, a tent and some fold-up chairs. He set the stuff down and sat at the island while grabbing an apple to snack on. Mark looked over at Mikaleigh, “Hey, Mika, how much food do you think we’ll need for this?” Mikaleigh looked up from putting chips in a small bag,”Hmm, I’d say about three small bags and two coolers. One for tonight and two for the next two nights. What all did you pack, Mark?” Mark shrugged, “Enough clothing for tonight and the next two nights, two tooth brushes, one tube of toothpaste, little to-go bottles of mouthwash, two deodorants, and I grabbed up the tent and two fold-up chairs.” Mikaleigh chuckled, “Ok, I think that would be enough items for our adventure." Mark nodded in agreement then, after throwing away his apple core, he left to go put the stuff in the trunk of the car. Mikaleigh had finished making some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the weekend and started putting soda and water in the two coolers that were filled with ice packs and cubes to keep them cold. Then he brought the bags and coolers out to the var, putting them in the back seat. Mark shut the trunk lid down and walk over to the driver side of the Impala, beckoning Mikaleigh to get in. Mikaleigh got in the passenger side and started messing with the radio to find some good music to listen to. He finally settled on an old rock station while pulling on his seat belt. Mark put his on and started the car, putting it in reverse and backing out the driveway carefully. Mark pulled up to the entrance of the Black Rose Woods, taking his seat belt off, shutting the car off and got out. Mikaleigh took his seat belt off and got out the car, observing the place. He walked to the trunk of the car and opened it, getting the stuff out and setting it down. Mark got out the food and drinks from the back seat. Mikaleigh looked at mark, remembering what he had read about a certain part of the Black Rose Woods. “Hey, Mark, wanna find a place to set up camp and then go look for the Black Rose Garden?” Mikaleigh had asked Mark, setting down the chairs. Mark looked up over the car at him, “Sure, w gotta prove to everyone that we were here in the woods. Did you bring the map?” Mikaleigh nodded holding it up and walked over, “Yep. Here you go.” Mark took the map and examined it, taking notice of a large red circle in the middle of the page. Mikaleigh gathered up the stuff and started walking to a spot a little ways into the woods but not far enough to loose sight of the Impala. Mark grabbed the food and drinks, following him and setting them down. “Hey, Mika, do you know which way to go to find the garden? Its not specified on the map,” Mark asked, looking at the map again. “Mark, it is, you gotta look, we go north,” Mikaleigh replied with a sigh. Mark nodded and folded the map, putting it in his back pocket. Mikaleigh finished setting up the camp and they started their journey through the Black Rose Woods, searching for the garden of Black Roses. Mark got a bad feeling every now and then and Mikaleigh felt like they were being watched. Mark had tripped and stumbled over something, he looked back and seen it was a bone and he thought nothing of it and kept walking. They soon came upon a really thick thicket and they used their flashlight handles to get through it. Mark looked ahead and seen the most beautiful sight he would ever see in his life time. Mika had gotten through the thicket a few seconds after Mark and he almost came to tears at the sight before him. In front of them was the Black Rose Garden. It was in the middle of a clearing and the moon was above them, as they had been walking for hours and it was now nighttime. The light of the moon was giving the garden a light blue tint to it making everything seem like it was sparkling and majestic. Mark and Mika fell to their knees breathless at the sight. The black roses contrasted perfectly against the moonlight. Mark was the first to stand up and he walked over to a patch of roses. Mikaleigh stood up and looked around the clearing, taking everything in. Mark took out a pair of stem cutters and saying thanks to nature for this, he cut two black roses off the bush and brought one over to Mikaleigh. Mark reached his hand out, with the black rose, and was smiling,”Here, Mika, take it and lets get outta here. I’m starving.” Mikaleigh took the black rose and nodded,” Ok, Mark, lets hope nothing bad happens because I kept feeling like we were being watched earlier.” Mark nodded,” Yea, I felt that too.” Mikaleigh and Mark left the clearing and started back to the camp site. Mark saw something and looked over. He had a look of terror then he grabbed Mika’s wrist and started running as fast as he can. Mika looked back and seen what Mark had seen and he knew they had to get outta there. Mark stumbled and fell, cutting his knee on a sharp rock. Mika stopped and held out his hand, willing Mark to take it and get up. What they had seen was a ghost. It was a woman with long black hair and wore a white dress drenched in blood, and she was literally right behind them then she shrieked a horrible shriek that was so loud it sounded like bloody murder. Mark and Mika had to cover their ears because it was so loud and when it was over started running again as he had gotten Mark back onto his feet. Mark was running out of breath then he seen a small cave up ahead and pulled Mika further and into it. The ghost woman got distracted slightly and didn’t see them go in and started looking for them. Mark and Mikaleigh was leaning against the wall, opposite of each other, catching their breath. “Mark, what....what was that?” Mika had asked, trembling from fear. Mark looked over,” I’m not sure, but I did look something up on the computer back at home and what I had read was that this place is haunted by vengeful spirits who haven’t moved on yet.” Mika shivered, thinking about what they had gone through and looked out the cave entrance,”That’s horrible. Ok, I think the coast is clear, lets make a break for it.” Mark nodded in agreement and they took off running again. They could see the camp site just ahead and was almost there but then the woman appeared again and grabbed up Mark, dragging him further into the woods. Mika turned and started chasing after them. The woman kept dragging Mark until she got to a different clearing and this one was more dark and somber than the rest of the woods. Mika got lost then quickly tried to find his way back to the camp site. Mark tried to fight back, trying his best to get her to let him go. The woman pulled Mark up to a tree and set him in it and tied some vines around him. Mika had finally found the camp site and got into the Impala. He turned it on and then quickly put it in drive and drove into the woods, looking for Mark. Mark heard his car nearby and started to yell out, trying to give off his location. Mika had turned off the car and he heard Mark yelling and followed it, he seen Mark tied up in a tree and quickly skidded to a stop. He climbed up the tree, pocket knife in hand, and then he finally reached Mark and started cutting the vines. Mark started to wiggle around and the vines broke away. They started climbing down the tree and quickly got into the Impala. Mika was driving because Mark had quite a few cuts and bruises, then leaned back and sighed as Mika sped out of there and back to the camp site. Mika stopped the car and sighed, laying his head on the steering wheel,”That was close.” Mark nodded and closed his eyes, drifting off to sleep. Mika glanced at Mark and smiled. He had decided to forget their stuff, knowing they can buy more, and he drove them home, after an hour, he pulled into the drive way, turned off the car, got out, and carried Mark up to bed, calling it a night, waiting for another adventure for tomorrow.
